THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HELPED our local Environment today. 22 bags

Our ‘Plasticblitz’ outing in the stream off Dalton’s Path, Wooburn Park (to help the Thames21 campaign, by getting rid of litter & rubbish from our waterways) – was a job well done. We welcomed new volunteers, Rotary & LitterBlitz members to around 3-4 hrs of stream clearing + a few people went litter-picking nearby (3 bags full).

There were 14 volunteers in total.

Last September, we collected 16 bags from the stream & today another 19 – sadly, from exactly the SAME area.

Nick and David have helped to raise funding for the Christmas lights and Bourne End fun night, liaising with the local shopkeepers and tradesmen and societies. They have stepped down after many years of community service. They had some funds left over which they have donated to our club and the Rotary club of Cookham Bridge.

We are entering the time when we ask those school children living in Bourne End and surrounding villages to write a poem for Peace. The winning poem will be made into a plaque and displayed at the Peace Garden in Penny’s Corner at the end of Bourne End High Street. The poem should not be more than 60 words long.

No – it’s not Halloween but us shining a purple light on our Peace Garden to commemorate Rotary’s Project to eradicate Polio world-wide. Check out Polio Project for more information click on https://www.endpolio.org/world-polio-day October 24th 2019

There was not a cloud in the sky when the Peace Garden at Penny’s Corner in Bourne End was formally opened on Saturday 21 September, International Day of Peace. This project in partnership with the Parish Council has been a truly inspiring one for our club. Principally funded by the Parish Council and Bourne End & Cookham Rotary Club, including support from Rotary in the Thames Valley District and Rotary International, with welcome ideas and donations in cash or in kind from other members of the local community and friends further afield. Throughout the months of planning, development and final construction, the spirit of cooperation and words of encouragement have made it a real joy to be part of. The number of people who have enjoyed the space once the safety boards came down bodes well for the future. Thank you to the Parish Council and good citizens of Bourne End for this great opportunity. It is so rewarding to see so many gathered here today to enjoy the formal dedication. Thank you all for coming and hope everyone enjoys the Garden for many years to come.
